Mannie’s Seafood is a straightforward, no-frills seafood restaurant tucked just off Gulf Freeway in Houston. It’s the kind of place where the focus is very much on generous portions and familiar, home-style seafood dishes, making it popular with locals looking for a satisfying meal without pretense.

The atmosphere inside has a distinct seafood market vibe—there’s an unmistakable fishy aroma that might catch first-timers off guard, but anyone who grew up around coastal seafood spots will find it part of the experience. The service is warm and accommodating; staff here are used to customizing orders, like grilling fish instead of frying or removing fish heads, to suit your preferences.

Regulars often come for the fried whole red snapper or tilapia, which gets praise for tasting authentic and hearty, reminiscent of Mexican coastal-style preparations. The way Mannie’s prepares these without batter upon request is an appreciated detail that keeps the fish’s natural texture and flavor front and center. The seafood soup and shrimp cocktails during happy hour also stand out for those looking for variety beyond fried options.

Prices lean toward the affordable side considering the large portion sizes, making it an appealing spot for families and groups who want to share a platter-full of seafood without worrying about the bill. Drinks like micheladas and frozen margaritas add a casual, festive touch to the meal and pair well with the seafood-heavy menu.

Visits during lunchtime are common, and the spot’s bustling but relaxed feel makes it suitable for a casual meal rather than an upscale dining experience. If you’re after straightforward, filling seafood dishes in a place that reflects Houston’s diverse culinary landscape, Mannie’s Seafood delivers with an honest, unpolished character that resonates with longtime patrons and newcomers alike.

Whole fried fish, just like we get in Mexico but more expensive ($30-40)! (Be sure to order fried without batter). The micheladas are cheap and tasty too!

My fiancé, mom, and I came here for lunch on April 16th. It was by complete mistake, but it was very worth it. The prices here are cheap for the portions. We each got a different lunch special, and they were huge portions of fish. The salmon I ordered wasn't fishy at all. I'm usually very picky about my salmon, and this was delicious. It does smell fishy in the restaurant, but the fish doesn't taste old at all. It was definitely worth the price.

I have been coming here for years. The menu is pretty much the same, which is great as you know you’re gonna get what you want every time. There’s plenty of parking in the back. The staff is always friendly and ready. The food is always well seasoned. Their fried shrimp and grilled shrimp is always delicious. Everything I’ve eaten from here has always tasted just right. One place I’ve never had to send the food back. Will be back.

This is a casual place within 5 min of the airport. It's worth a stop. I had the #1 lunch special, which was fried shrimp, a piece of fresh fish fried, shrimp fried rice, and a simple salad. It was delicious. The fish and shrimp are lightly breaded in cornmeal. There was no question the fish and shrimp were fresh, sweet, and just lovely. The side of shrimp fried rice was simple and good, but my partner had the Special Fried Rice, and it was fantastic. I haven't had fried rice this good in a long time. I also ordered the fish and shrimp soup to go. Tasted it when we returned home, and it was good too. The servings are generous. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. You can tell they cater to the locals. If you are going or coming from the airport, it's worth a trip, even an Uber ride if you have time.
